What is a Plantar Callus?

A plantar callus is a callus that develops on the bottom of the foot, usually in the heel area. The callus occurs due to one metatarsal bone being longer or lower than the others. The placement of the metatarsal bone causes it to hit the ground when walking with more force than the bone is made to deal with, causing the skin beneath the bone to thicken.
