Heel Calluses 


A heel callus is basically just an area on the heel of thick, hardened skin. Many heel calluses are not actually skin problem, though. They are often due to a problem with a bone in the foot, specifically one of the metatarsal bones.

If one of the metatarsal bones is longer than the other metatarsals, that bone will contact the ground with more energy than it should.

Due to the constant pressure, the skin under the longer metatarsal bone hardens and the callus forms.

It is possible for calluses to cause pain. They can also be irritating and most people don’t want to wear sandals or other shoes that could reveal their feet if they have calluses.
